Giới thiệu cục phòng, chống HIV/AIDS

INTRODUCTION

Since the detection of the first HIV positive case in 1983, the mankind has faced a critically dangerous epidemic the adverse consequences of which become catastrophic burdens for not only a certain country, a continent but also the entire globe. In Vietnam, since the first HIV infected person detected in 1990, HIV/AIDS epidemic has spread throughout the country. HIV/AIDS cases have been reported from one hundred percents of provinces, cities, 93% districts and more than 50% communes. HIV/AIDS epidemic have left direct impacts on the people's health, future generation as well as the socio-economic development of the country. For more than ten years, thanks to the valuable concerns by the Party, National Assembly, the Government and great efforts made by the ministries, sectors, mass organizations, localities at all levels, HIV/AIDS related activities have been implemented countrywide, the people's HIV/AIDS awareness has been increased, the national and international commitments have been translated into reality. Despite such efforts, HIV/AIDS is still on a potential rise with a ceaselessly development in terms of scale, target groups and transmission patterns. In order to respond effectively against HIV/AIDS, control its outspread and reduce the socio-economic impacts, a national strategy involved by all relevant sectors and the whole society is indispensable. On 17/3/2004, Prime Minister signed the Decision No. 36/2004/QD-TTg on the approval of the National Strategy on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control to 2010 with a Vision to 2020. In the strategy, the Government's points of view, prioritized targets, solutions and implementation of HIV/AIDS related activities in Vietnam are identified. On this occasion, on behalf of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the strong cooperation between the ministries, sectors, provinces, cities and individuals for their active support in the development of the strategy as well as in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Viet Nam.
