Commencement of Can Tho city Center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control

On February 27, 2010 The Health Department of Can Tho city held a solemn commencement of construction ceremony of Can Tho city Center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Nguyen Van Cu (prolong) Str., An Binh ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho city.

Attendees of the ceremony included Nguyen Tan Quyen – a member of the Central Party Executive Committee, General of Can Tho City’s Commiitee, Can Tho City’s People’s Council chairman - Mr. Tran Chi Liem – the deputy minister of health, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long – the Administrator of the VAAC, and many other leaders of the city’s committee, the peope’s committee, the Ministry of Health, the Department of Health of Can Tho city and hundreds of represntatives from Departments, agencies, organizations, at all level of the city and district.

Can Tho center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control will meet the standards for Centers in the Mekong river delta as set out in Decision 1107/QĐ-TTg of July 28, 2009 by the Prime Minister and Decision 505/QĐ-UBND Can tho city’s people’s committee.

The center is being built on a 5,515 m² bulding plot. The main block had 5 floors, with 1.009m² building plot, usable area is 3,271m² and the total investment cost is nearly 45 trillion VND. It was expected to be finished in 520 days and to be able to serve the activities of HIV/AIDS prevention and control and to take care of health for people in Can Tho city and other provinces in the reagion.

Speaking at the Commencement ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long said he highly appreciated the achievements of the city’s HIV/AIDS prevention and control program in recent years and he also emphasized the importance of establishment of Can tho center for HIV/AIDS prevention and control. He said that the center was not only to serve the course of HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Can tho province, but it was also the center for the region. He expected the work would be finished soon to be able to serve the people.

At 7 a.m. Mr. To Minh Gioi – Can Tho city’s people’s committee vice chairman, the head of Can Tho city’s Steering board for prevention and control of AIDS, drug and prostitution - gave notice to commence construction.
